SPE has awarded IO Center director Jon Kleppe with the prize Oilman of the Year for 2014.

The Oilman of the Year prize is annually awarded to persons who have contributed extraordinarily to the Norwegian petroleum sector over a longer period of time, and is given by SPE.

Jon Kleppe was the first Norwegian to gradutate with a PhD in petroleum, and this happended at Texas A&M University in 1974. He was also the first appointed professor at NTNU in reservoir technology.

Through his career he has supervised more than 250 master and PhD candidates,  where many today are in leading roles in oil and gas industry in Norway and internationally. Jon has a very good contact with the oil and gas industry, and he did early see the need of having an international eduction with English as the teaching language. This has contributed to that the petroleum education at NTNU today has 50% international students. 

Jon has a strong engagement in internationalization, both in education and research and is actively contributing the educating petroleum engineers in Africa and Asia.
